This chemist, throughout the years in it various incarnations, is indeed a bit more expensive than some of the other chemists and chemist chains however, for twenty years it has been my local chemist and I want to support a local business. The owners, pharmarcists and staff that have come and gone have always been pretty helpful as after a short while at the business, come to realise that this is a chemist that has a regular clientele as it is located in a little oasis of a shopping complex adrift in a desert of suburbia. The locals, a demographic comprised of older people with older people problems and young families, often with children who have the usual range of childrenhood maladies, rely on this chemist a great deal. Often, these people are prescribed medicines with the potential of producing adverse side effects and by informing them face-to-face, making that connection between a pharmacist and customer relieves a lot anxiety the customer may have about taking a new drug and taking it properly so it's potential is fully realised. The staff I suspect are trained not only in their duties of a pharmacy but also in the means of communication as there are often hurdles such as hard of hearing, English as a second language, maybe being socially challenged and a host of other barriers that need to be realised and overcome to do their job effectively and provide for their customers. I've even heard a staff member once say to a customer who looked as they weren't sure of the information they had just been told, 'Do you understand?. Do you have any questions? Please ask me if you do.' Basically to me this says, ' We care, we want you to understand this medication, we want you to be safe and not worry.' Can't get better than that. Yeah, it's a business but there is a professional attitude here that goes beyond the ringing of the till. We are part of the community. Anybody who whinges about a few pennies compared with service like this business provides I reckon needs to reassess their priorities.
